Northern Lights Post Adds Editor East Coast Rep

Northern Lights Post has added noted comedy/lifestyle editor John Laskas to its roster of talented editors and named Rich Schafler of Schafler Artist Management, New York, as its east coast commercial sales rep.

Creative diversity is something we pride ourselves on, said co-founder David Gioiella. We want all our editors to be comfortable working in many filmmaking styles and John is all about that. Hes worked in long-form television, advertising, network IDs and promos. All the kind of work were known for collectively, John has done at one point in his career. Hes a perfect fit for us.

Laskas joins NLP following a yearlong assignment at boutique ad agency The Concept Farm where he headed the post-production for the ESPN25: The Season of the Fan ad campaign for ESPN. That project involved editing hundreds of spots and supervising the Avid Unity asset management system that housed some 600 hours of source footage and graphics.

Laskas began his career in 1996 as an assistant editor at Crew Cuts, New York. He left there in 1999 to join Isis Post, New York, as an editor, working extensively on long and short form projects for both ABC News and ABC Sports. It was also there that Laskas began his long-standing creative relationship with SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE director James Signorelli, editing many of the shows classic commercial parodies and short films.

Some of Laskas best-known SNL work includes commercial parodies HOMOCIL, HORSE GLUE, GATORADE LOVE BUCKET and SUBSHACK, as well as a short film called, SNL FANATIC (a parody of MTVs show FANATIC) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (BOOGIE NIGHTS, MAGNOLIA, PUNCH DRUNK LOVE) featuring Ben Affleck. Laskas also edited the opening credit sequence for the 2000-2001 season, the Weekend Update open from 2000-2003 and work for the SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE 25TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL.

NLPs new east coast commercial sales rep Schafler will focus on furthering the companys commercial spot work. Northern Lights is an extremely vibrant and dynamic company that already has well-established relationships with top creative agencies, said Schafler. My goal is to strengthen those relationships and develop new ones. I think they are primed for extraordinary growth.

New York City-based Northern Lights Post (www.northernlightspost.com) was founded in 1995 by editors Mark Littman and Gioiella. Since then the company has earned a reputation as a leading creative editorial/post-production house thanks to its work for such top advertising agencies as Saatchi & Saatchi, J. Walter Thompson, Lowe and Ogilvy; and television networks Comedy Central, ESPN, Sci-Fi Channel, USA Network and Voom HD. In addition, the company has edited numerous long-form television shows, including MTV's CRIBS, and numerous VH1 specials. Long-time supporters of the independent film scene, the company has also been behind such films as URSA MINOR, a 20 minute short co-directed and edited by Gioiella (2003 NY Independent Film Festival) and the feature documentary RED, WHITE AND YELLOW, directed, produced and edited by Littman.
