Zagreb Winners!

Zagreb 2002 recently concluded its 15th World Festival of Animated Films with Michael Dudok de Wit's FATHER AND DAUGHTER winning the festival Grand Prize. The official competition jury, Oksana Cherkasova (Russia), Joanna Quinn (Great Britain), Linda Simensky (USA), Georges Lacroix (France) and Edo Lukman (Croatia), singled out FATHER AND DAUGHTER from the 85 films in competition. PA by Neil Goodridge was awarded Best Debut Film and Christopher Hinton's FLUX was presented with three special jury distinctions, including the Design Studies Jury Prize.

Decode Appoints Sharpe As The Save-Ums! Licensing Agent

Entertainment Inc. has appointed The Sharpe Company as the
international licensing agent for its new 3D animated preschool
series THE SAVE-UMS! The series is scheduled to debut in February
2003 as part of Discovery Kids new "Ready, Set, Learn" programming
block on TLC and Discovery Kids Channel in the U.S. and on CBC
Canada. Sharpe, current licensing agent for properties such as
HUMPHREY'S CORNER and THUNDERBIRDS, will license THE SAVE-UMS! in all
territories outside North America.

Snowden-Fine's Bob And Margaret To Air On Showtime

Based on the Academy Award-winning short BOB'S BIRTHDAY, the 52-episode animated series BOB AND MARGARET has been acquired by Showtime Networks from Corus Entertainment's Nelvana, including 26 episodes never aired in the U.S. The series, created and written by David Fine and Alison Snowden, will premiere July 5, 2002 on Showtime Women, a channel devoted to programming in which women are instrumental, and will later air on other Showtime channels.

Jury Scans Barcode For Grand Prize At Annecy

The coveted short film grand prize at the 26th International Festival of Animated Film at Annecy went to Adriaan Lokman's CG short BARCODE, while Barry Purves' animated comedy drama HAMILTON MATTRESS was honored with the grand prize for Best TV Animation Program. 245 films were screened in the "Annecy 2002" official selection, coming from 33 countries, with more than 200 films premiering at the festival. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony held on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Congratulations to all the winners!

National Cartoonists Society Honors Jerry Scott

Jerry Scott, co-creator of the ZITS and BABY BLUES comic strips, has won the National Cartoonists Society (NCS) 2001 Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. The "Oscar of cartooning" was presented at a black tie gala during the 56th Annual Reuben Awards Weekend, held this year in Cancun, Mexico. The Reuben Award, given by the NCS each year for exemplary cartoon work created in the previous year, was designed by and named after the NCS' first president, Rube Goldberg. In addition, cartoonists in various professional divisions were also honored with special plaques for excellence.
