NFB & Cinémathèque québécoise Celebrate Internationa

On Oct. 28, 2005, the National Film Board and the Cinémathèque québécoise join in the worldwide celebrations for International Animation Day. Special activities to mark the occasion are being planned in more than 30 countries on five continents.

The day will be marked at the Cinémathèque québécoise with the launch of the DVD MINDTRAVEL/EMBARQUEMENT IMMÉDIAT. The new compilation features works by eight world-renowned animators. The launch is at 5:30 pm in the Cinémathèques café-bar, and some of the animators Nicolas Brault, Michèle Cournoyer, Jacques Drouin, Masoud Raouf and Craig Welch will be on hand to meet the public and autograph copies of the DVD.

The launch of the MINDTRAVEL DVD may even lead to some real travel to France thanks to the contest Mindtravel to the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. The NFB and its partner Air France are offering two chances to win a trip for two to the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, to be held from June 5-10, 2006. To enter the contest, all you have to do is register online at www.onf.ca/atonf/concours/embarquement/index_en.html, where youll also find details and contest rules.

Moreover, Jacques Drouin, whose film IMPRINTS/EMPREINTES appears on the compilation, will give a masterclass at 1:00 pm at the Cinémathèque québécoise. Drouin is the acclaimed master of the technique invented in 1930 by Alexander Alexeïeff known as pinscreen.

Other NFB activities to celebrate the day include CineRobotheques free all-day sessions at its personal viewing stations for anyone who just cant get enough animation and a at 6:30 pm screening of MINDTRAVEL at the Cinémathèque with directors present .
