Network Ten Braces for Get Ace

Press Release from Galaxy Pop

Melbourne, Australia September 22, 2010  -  Burgeoning Australian film and television production company Galaxy Pop, has secured a broadcast deal from Australian terrestrial broadcaster Network Ten for its new animated children’s series Get Ace.

This is the second commissioning from Network Ten for young multi-talented writing producing duo of Gian Christian and Dina McPherson. Cherrie Bottger, Network Ten’s Head of Children's Programming said, “Get Ace is a character centric, cheeky humoured animated television series and Network Ten is thrilled to be in partnership once again with such a passionate and committed team headed by Gian and Dina. We believe it will deliver another entertaining experience to our young audience.”

Galaxy Pop Executive Producer Gian Christian said, “We’re very proud and delighted to be making another series with Cherrie and her team, who’ve shown incredible commitment to supporting high quality, Australian children’s programming over many, many years. Get Ace is all about great characters that are bold, witty and unique, with the sort of irreverent humour that kids love.”

Created by Galaxy Pop Co-Founder and Head of Creative Dina McPherson, the series follows the comedic action adventures of 12-year-old nerd Ace McDougal, who is catapulted into one thrilling adventure after another when he is accidentally fitted with some super cool, high-tech spy braces. Network Head of Children's Television at Network TenDDina McPherson said, “From the outset when creating Get Ace, we carefully crafted themes, storylines and characters that are not only thoroughly entertaining, but kid relatable. The series follow our fearless hero Ace, as he attempts to navigate the challenging and somewhat clumsy journey through High school, facing the same daily trials and tribulations as our audience; from embarrassing parents, to peer pressure and everything in-between. But Ace does all this with the added benefit of super cool high-tech secret agent braces. Along with all the laughter and fantastical action sequences, the series also features pop culture references and college band style music to ensure the series connects with kids on multiple levels.”

Gian Christian added, “Get Ace is also a uniquely interactive series with a strong cross-media plan in the works, featuring a unique online experience for kids called My Ace Place.”

Developed with the assistance of Screen Australia and Film Victoria, and with a budget of over $AUD10Million for the 26 episode series, looks to be one of the most expensive children’s animated series of its type produced in Australia. Get Ace is set to debut on Network Ten towards the end of 2012.
