Nerd Corps Signs Key 'Slugterra' Deals

Nerd Corps Entertainment has inked deals with several key licensees and licensing agents to represent “Slugterra.”

Vancouver, Canada --

Nerd Corps Entertainment has inked deals with several key licensees and licensing agents to represent its newest boys action-comedy property around the world. The television series begins its global rollout on Disney XD this fall with consumer product launches starting spring 2013, including a toy line from Jakks Pacific.

“We’ve had a tremendous response to Slugterra because it’s a high quality property that hits so many of the key drivers for boys ages four to nine,” said Juli Boylan, Head of Global Consumer Products at Nerd Corps. “It’s got all the hallmarks of an evergreen property—transformation, collectability, battling and dueling with a strong play pattern.”

Licensing agents now representing Slugterra include:

  • Compania Panamericana de Licencias (CPL) in Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Megalicense in Russia
  • Elastic Rights in Spain, Portugal, France, Greece and Turkey
  • Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG) in the UK, Ireland and Benelux
  • Haven in Australia and New Zealand

In addition, several licensees have scooped up the rights to the brand in key categories in North America including:

  • Hybrid Apparel for t-shirts, twofers, fleece tops, tank tops, beanies and thermal tops in the US and Canada
  • Mad Dog Concepts for the boys sleepwear category in the US including pajama sets, sleep pants, long shorts, boxers and sleeved blankets
  • Shout! Factory for home video in the US and its territories

“We're thrilled to be working with the team at Nerd Corps on Slugterra, a property with such intrinsic appeal to boys,” said Vickie O’Malley, Managing Director at CPLG UK. “Brand Licensing Europe will be our launch pad for the brand, and we look forward to talking about opportunities with licensees across all categories.”

“Hybrid Apparel is extremely excited to be partnering with Nerd Corps Entertainment on the upcoming Slugterra franchise,” said Derrick Baca, VP or Licensing and Business Development at Hybrid Apparel. “We believe that this property is particularly unique and separates itself from what is currently available in the market. Hybrid Apparel is ready to ‘Slug it out’ in 2013 and beyond!”

“We are delighted to be in business with Nerd Corps and this wonderful property with such strong partners and potential both on- and off-screen,” said Ignacio Orive, President of Elastic Rights. “We believe it will become a big success in southern Europe and continue to deliver over time.”

Nerd Corps Entertainment continues to secure additional licensing agents and licensees for territories and categories around the world, and lock down additional terrestrial broadcast. The property will be presented at Brand Licensing Europe in London, UK, and full episodes will be showcased at MIPJunior in Cannes, France.
