Nelvana Provides Programming To Eastern Europe

Corus Entertainment's Nelvana has signed a deal to supply a 90-minute Nelvana branded programming block for Eastern European kids' broadcaster Minimax. Starting in September 2002, the Hungary-based cable and satellite broadcaster Minimax will screen the Nelvana block on Saturday and Sunday mornings, across three of its territories -- Hungary, Poland and Romania. The deal is the first of its kind for Nelvana in Eastern Europe, and comes in response to recent demand from broadcasters there for a cohesive, themed approach to kids' weekend programming. Nelvana has previously supplied Saturday morning program blocks in the U.S. for CBS and PBS. Nelvana's sales executive for Eastern Europe, Chris Kealey, concluded the deal at the recent DISCOP Market in Budapest. The first two Nelvana-produced series lined up for the Minimax block are NED'S NEWT and CYBERCHASE. Nelvana has been supplying children's animation to Minimax since the channel's launch in 1999. Minimax is currently airing other Nelvana series including BRACEFACE, FRANKLIN and BABAR.
