(March 28, 2011 – Toronto, Canada) – Nelvana Enterprises puts the spotlight on laughter this spring as it heads to MIPTV next week with three new animated comedies: Sidekick, Spliced and Scaredy Squirrel, and the live-action sitcom Mr. Young.
Sidekick - Join Eric and Trevor on their not-so-heroic adventures training to be superhero sidekicks. With access to a mansion stocked with gadgets, they do get their fair share of action battling the bad guys, but are still waiting for their super-powers to kick in. Season 2 has just been greenlit! For kids aged 6-11. 80 x 11 minutes. Already a hit on YTV in Canada, the series launches on Canal J in France and K2 in Italy in 2011.
Spliced - Keep Away Island is aptly named as it houses a thriving community of bizarre half-baked mutants including best friends Peri (short for failed experiment #13) and Entrée (a walking combo of chicken, cow, pig and shrimp). Without any clue about the outside world, these wingnuts do their best to create a semblance of a society. For kids aged 6-11. 52 x 11 minutes. Broadcasters include TELETOON in Canada and ABC Australia.
Scaredy Squirrel - Witness a creative, loveable hero as he tackles life’s everyday challenges. In fact, everyday life is a challenge for Scaredy as everything in his world must be “just right”. Scaredy makes no apologies for his quirks and that makes him one awesome squirrel! For kids aged 6-11. 52 x 11 minutes. Broadcasters include YTV in Canada.
Mr. Young - After graduating university, 14-year-old child prodigy Adam Young lands himself a job as a high school science teacher instructing students his own age, including the girl of his dreams and the class bully. With one foot in the lunchroom and the other in the staff room, Adam is trapped between two worlds, with hilarious results. Created by Dan Signer (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, The Suite Life on Deck), the live-action hit sitcom is performed in front of a live audience. Produced by Thunderbird Films in association with YTV. For kids 8-12. 26 x half-hours. Broadcasts on YTV in Canada.
