National Animation and Design Centre Expanding

Founded in 1992 by the Cegep de Jonquiere, the National Animation and Design Centre (NAD Centre) is taking part, in 2008, in an innovative partnership with the Cegep de Jonquiere and the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi (UQAC) and now offers private as well as university programs.

The union has already yielded a new Certificate in 3D Animation and Digital Design. Moreover, the UQAC and the NAD Centre have already welcomed, in new premises at the National Centre in Montreal, their first students during the fall 2008 session.

As follow-up, the two institutions are actively preparing their application for a Bachelor's degree in 3D Animation and Digital Design. The development of these two programs is the result of a natural collaboration between the Cegep de Jonquiere and the UQAC. The NAD Centre has more than 15 years experience in the teaching of 3D animation and the UQAC, a pioneer in the interdisciplinary of the Arts in Quebec, is recognized for its Arts module and the increasing popularity of its Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts, which has also been offered for more than 15 years.

The mission of the NAD Centre extends beyond university training and also includes research and development projects, technical assistance, knowledge transfer, corporate training and aspires to international growth.

To support the expansion of its various programs, the NAD Centre moved at the end of August to: 405 Ogilvy Avenue, in front of the Parc metro station. With its 23,000 sq. ft., the NAD Centre puts at the students' and teachers' disposal labs, lecture rooms, and computer stations designed to foster creativity, group or individual work as well relaxation and collegiality, which has been unique to the NAD Centre since its creation in 1992.

As for the Certificate in 3D Animation and Digital Design, it is focused on the individual's creativity, the technology that supports it and the realities of the industry. It is concerned with art and the mastery of techniques and concepts related to 3D animation, while offering a level of technological skills that enables the creation of complex animated work using selected software. This program is eligible for the government's Loans and Bursaries Program and the tuition fees are those required by the UQAC for its undergraduate programs.
