Narnia 3 Treads on Tourist at U.S. Box Office

Despite a soft opening, Fox-Walden's THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER bested Columbia's THE TOURIST in their opening weekend at the U.S. box office for Dec. 10-12, 2010.

With vfx from 4DMax, Cinesite, Framestore, Fugitive Studios, Mark Roberts Motion Control, Matte Painting UK (visual effects), The Moving Picture Company (MPC), Prime Focus Film, The Senate Visual Effects, Spectrum Effects and The Third Floor, DAWN TREADER sailed away with $24.5 million.

With vfx from At The Post and Filmworks/FX, THE TOURIST shot up $17 million in its debut weekend.

Disney's TANGLED slipped to third, lassoing another $14.6 million. The animated hit has a cume of $115.6 million.

Warner Bros.' HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 placed fourth, conjuring up an additional $8.5 million. With vfx from Baseblack, Cinesite, Double Negative, Framestore, Gradient Effects, Industrial Light & Magic, Mova, The Moving Picture Company, Rising Sun Pictures and The Visual Effects Company, the wizarding adventure has scored $257.7 million to date.

Fox's UNSTOPPABLE pulled into fifth with $3.75 million. With vfx from Asylum VFX, Eye-Spy Prods. and Hirota Paint Industries, the runaway train thriller has a cume of $74.3 million.

After expanding in its second week, Fox Searchlight's BLACK SWAN danced into sixth, adding $3.33 million to its $5.61 million cume. Look Effects provided visual effects.

Screen Gems' BURLESQUE plummeted to seventh with $3.2 million, lifting its cume to $32.6 million.

Fox's LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS was dealt $3 million in eighth, bringing its cume to $27.6 million.

Warner Bros.' DUE DATE drove into ninth with $2.55 million, making its cume $94.9 million.

Closing out the top ten, DreamWorks' MEGAMIND scored another $2.51 million. The superhero spoof has taken away $140.2 million to date.
