Press Release from Boomerang

Muttley, snickering hound sidekick from Wacky Races and Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines is the featured Boomerang star of this month's Boomeroyalty weekends, airing every August weekend from 2-4 p.m., starting Saturday, Aug. 7.  In Wacky Races (1968-1970), zany race-car drivers and their equally daffy turbine-driven contraptions enter international competitions, with the single goal of winning—however, their efforts are endangered by the devious activities of evildoer Dick Dastardly and his henchdog, Muttley.  In Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines (1969-1971), Dastardly and Muttley are back with an entourage of World War I flying aces, pursuing American courier Yankee Doodle Pigeon to intercept top-secret information.

Muttley never speaks a word in either production, but comically communicates all his thoughts through his distinctive laugh…er, snigger.  While conversation was not exactly Muttley’s strong suit, there was never any doubt about what he was really thinking, especially when it came to how he felt about his master.  And although he fumbles and bumbles, Muttley is one skilled pooch—he could fly using his tail as a propeller (this ability came in most handy when he was about to crash).

“Hanna-Barbera produced so many wonderful characters for Saturday morning television,” said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming for Cartoon Network and Boomerang.  “Boomeroyalty weekends give us the chance to showcase some classic favorites that can’t be seen anywhere else.”

Highlights of the August Boomeroyalty weekends include:

*         Saturday, Aug. 07 at 2 p.m.: Wacky Races - “By Rollercoaster to Upsan Downs”:  Dick Dastardly leads the racers into an abandoned amusement park on their way to Upsan Downs. *         Saturday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.: Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines - “Have Plane, Will Travel”:  The Vulture Squadron is transferred to a place where there's positively no pigeon—except Yankee Doodle Pigeon. *         Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m.: Wacky Races - “The Ski Resort Road Race”:  After causing an avalanche, Dastardly uses a ski jump for his own getaway, but the other cars follow him. *         Sunday, Aug. 29 at 3:35 p.m.: Wacky Races - “Hot Race at the Chillicothe”: Heading to Chillicothe, OH, Dick Dastardly steals a Police car, and the Anthill Mob disguise themselves as a little league baseball team and play Baseball against Dick Dastardly and Muttley.
