Stephen Rea (THE CRYING GAME), Ron Perlman (HELLBOY) and German actor Benno Furmann (JOYEUX NOEL) are joining Thomas Jane and John Malkovich in the sci-fi action thriller THE MUTANT CHRONICLES, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Director Simon Hunter plans to begin shooting this summer.
Rea will play the former commander of Lieutenant Mitch Hunter (Jane), a 23rd century Marine who tries to save Earth by leading a band of soldiers against evil NecroMutants. Perlman has the role of the leader of a religious sect who recruits Hunter in his fight to wipe out the mutants. Furmann plays Hunter's former enemy who becomes his ally and Malkovich portrays the head of a council of corporations that rule the planet.
Edward R. Pressman is producing via his Pressman Film Corp. aside Paradox Ent. The film was adapted from a popular role-playing game by Philip Eisner and Ross Jameson.
Pressman Film Corp. and Paradox Ent. have already lined up promotional deals for comics with Dark Horse Comics and new games with C.O.G. Games and Fantasy Flight Games.
