MERGE@Crossroads' Green Shows He's Anything but with Pair of Videos
Akon's Oh Africa
Working with top artists Akon (featuring Keri Hilson) and Robin Thicke (featuring Snoop Dogg), MERGE@Crossroads Director Gil Green recently turned out a duo of memorable videos. While the clips vary remarkably in content, Green adroitly creates distinct worlds in which each song comfortably lives.
Oh Africa is Akon's hopeful tribute to the promise of the African continent and her people to rise above their myriad problems. The video shifts from the singer dancing joyously before an enormous, colorful mural of African imagery; to a choir-like crowd singing and grooving with faces painted in the colors of the continent's flags; to a culminating scene of footballers kicking soccer-ball-like paintballs into a wall, creating a massive image of star athletes unified for the collection of nations.
Robin Thicke's It's in the Morning is a sexy, lazy ode to the joy of a couple spending a romantic morning secluded from the world. The video alternates between scenes of Thicke seducing a dark-haired beauty in their capacious bed and Snoop laid out in a hopped-up convertible alongside his companion. Green creates an atmosphere of joy, of companionship, of sex - without resorting to the crude or cliché.
