MTV's Spider-Man Series Begins Production

Production is underway at Sony's Culver City studios on MTV's animated series SPIDER-MAN. Now in college, Peter Parker must juggle academics, work as a Web designer for the Daily Bugle, his relationship with Mary Jane Watson, fighting super-villains and criminals and maintain his secret identity as Spider-Man. The series is being created in CG but will have a classic animation look, and feature a seemingly realistic neon lit city. Neil Patrick Harris (STARSHIP TROOPERS, DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D.) will play the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man with singer Lisa Loeb as Mary Jane Watson and BEVERLY HILLS 90210 alum Ian Ziering as Peter's pal Harry Osborn rounding out the cast. Produced by Columbia TriStar Domestic Television Family Entertainment, SPIDER-MAN is slated to premiere on MTV in winter 2002.

In the midst of Spider-Man mania, Danny Fingeroth caught up with two of the most popular producers in showbiz Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad to talk about box office success, becoming a geek, creative changes and the new animated television show.
