Mondo Media to Produce Three More Features

Online content distributor signs ‘Simpsons’ and ‘King of the Hill’ producer Bill Schultz to executive-produce the slate.

Online content distributor Mondo Media is financing and producing three more movies based on its original web series, according to a report by StreamDaily.

Up first is a film adaptation of the animated series Happy Tree Friends, set for the end of next year or early 2016, followed by adventure comedy Dick Figures 2 and sci-fi sex comedy Deep Space 69. Each of the films will reportedly be staggered three to six months apart in order to take advantage of a marketing push already in the works.

Mondo has signed Home Plate Entertainment’s Bill Schultz to executive-produce the slate. A four-time Emmy Award winner, Schultz has produced multiple seasons of The Simpsons and King of the Hill, and says the budgets will be increased to about $10 million to ready the films for the big screen.

Mondo will reportedly finance the features with a combination of equity and collaboration from distribution partners and pre-sales, and the films will be distributed both through digital channels and traditional routes, depending on the territory.
