Mission Hill Wins Cartoons On The Bay

In the television competition at Cartoons on the Bay, Warner Bros.' beleaguered series MISSION HILL took home the prize for best over-all animation series. The 4th Cartoons On The Bay International Festival of Television Animation was held in Positano (Amalfi Coast), Italy from April 14 - 18. Cartoons on the Bay is the only festival in the world dedicated to television animation. The festival is an international event with awards, workshops, lectures and events centering on the ever-changing world of television animation. At the event Pulcinella Awards were presented to highlight top achievements in TV animation. This year's jury was comprised of: John Coates (TV Cartoons, United Kingdom), President of the jury; Annika Cederborg (SVT, Sweden); Nelson Shin (Akom Prod., Korea); and Guido Silvestri Silver (cartoonist, Italy). After viewing all of the 60 programs in competition, the jury awards the prizes and gives their reasons for awarding particular projects. Below is a complete list of winners.

The jury felt that 64 ZOO LANE presented a charming fantasy world for young children.

GRIZZLY TALES FOR GRUESOME KIDS offers children a whole lot of scary fun while carrying a strong moral underlying message.

Pulcinella Award For the Best Series for Young Adults and Adults MTV DOWNTOWN Prod: MTV Animation Creator: Chris Prynoski

The jury felt that we should combine the two categories Young Adults and Adults because the entries in these two categories belong together. We then chose MTV DOWNTOWN as the winner. It humorously depicts a slice of teen-age culture that we seldom see in animation on television.

MISSION HILL won this award because of its stylized design and honest approach to sexual and moral issues.

ROBBIE THE REINDEER is the ideal TV Special to transmit during Christmas holiday, combining as it does Father Christmas, reindeers, snowmen and a strong supporting cast.
