Miller's Spirit Finds Its True Love

Sarah Paulson (TV's STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP) leads a host of newcomers joining the cast of Frank Miller's adaptation of Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The other new additions include Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi. They will join lead Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson.

THE SPIRIT is comic legend Eisner's story of a masked detective (Macht) believed to be dead and operating out of a mausoleum, fighting crime in the dark shadows of Central City with his fists, cunning and ingenious forms of punishment. Jackson will play the villain Octopus, a meek lab assistant who becomes a murderous crime kingpin in Central City.

Paulson will play Denny Colt's (aka The Spirit's) true love, Dr. Ellen Dolan, who is also the police commissioner's daughter. Lauria (TV's THE PATH TO 9/11) will play the commissioner with Katic (FEAST OF LOVE) playing a rookie cop. Simmons (EVAN ALMIGHTY) will play a young Colt. Lombardi has signed on to play Octopus's henchman, Phobos.

Odd Lot Ent.'s Deborah Del Prete and Gigi Pritzker, and Batfilm Prods.'s Michael Uslan are the producers. Batfilm co-founder Benjamin Melniker and Steve Maier will exec produce. Odd Lot's Linda McDonough and Batfilm's F.J. DeSanto are the co-producers.

Filming is set to start in October in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lionsgate, which holds the U.S. and U.K. rights, plans to release the film in 2009.
