Mike Young Goes From BUMs To Pigs

BUTT UGLY MARTIANS producer Mike Young Productions is bringing a new series to the small screen. THE CURLY TALES OF PIGGLEY WINKS, 26 half-hour episodes aimed at pre-schoolers, is based on original stories by Irish writer Denise Fitzpatrick and is being produced with London-based Entara Limited. The CGI animated PIGGLEY WINKS features the voice of Irish actor Colm Meaney as Grandpa Piggley, whose comic stories of childhood adventures in rural Ireland form the basis of the series. "When Denise first brought these stories to me, I found them completely irresistible," said Young, co-founder and president of Mike Young Productions. "The Irish are famous for their oral storytelling talents, and although its a tradition shared by cultures all over the world, weve seen a decline in it in recent years, especially in todays fast-paced society. We believe this series helps to keep alive this important connection between older and younger generations." Grandpa Piggley is joined by a cast of characters including Young Piggley, Fitzer the Pig, Dannan the Duck, and a female leprechaun named Cobble. Attendees at last weeks Kidscreen Summit received a sneak preview of the series when MYP executives Mike Young and Bill Schultz aired a preview tape with footage from the show. PIGGLEY WINKS will be launched at MipTV in Cannes, France in April 2002.
