MicroScribe Now Available with Maya and SolidWorks

Immersion Corp., a leading developer of 3D and haptic (touch) feedback technologies, and FISHER/UNITECH, a Michigan-based engineering technologies firm, are jointly offering Immersion's MicroScribe digitizing systems to graphics designers and CAD engineers working with Maya and SolidWorks software. Effective Aug. 12, 2003, FISHER/UNITECH is an Immersion "Premier Reseller," adding the MicroScribe G2 product line to the products it resells throughout North America.

"Many of our customers who work with SolidWorks or Maya software will save time and increase their productivity by using Immersion's MicroScribe digitizer to capture physical objects in digital form," said Charles Hess, president of FISHER/UNITECH. "Because we share the same type of customers, both companies will benefit from this partnership."

Immersion's MicroScribe G2 digitizer is an affordable articulated arm that engineers, game developers, animators and industrial designers use to convert physical objects into digital 3D models for reverse-engineering, virtual manipulation and editing. Users of the MicroScribe digitizer can capture 3D data in realtime more accurately and efficiently than with traditional methods of manually measuring object dimensions.

"Maya is one of the most popular software packages for 3D and animation, and SolidWorks is the clear leader for solid modeling CAD," said Greg Belaus, senior director, 3D and Professional Products Group of Immersion. "Since FISHER/UNITECH is a major reseller for both Maya and SolidWorks, with five offices in the Midwest, we are now able to expand sales of the MicroScribe with local representation directly in that engineering-heavy region."

Founded in 1993, Immersion ( helps its partners develop and increase competitive advantage and broaden market reach by making the use of touch sense feedback as critical a user experience as sight and sound. Immersion's technology is deployed across personal computing, entertainment, medical training, automotive and three-dimensional simulation markets. Immersion and its wholly owned subsidiaries hold more than 195 issued patents worldwide.

FISHER/UNITECH (, is the second largest reseller of SolidWorks in North America, and offers a broad range of comprehensive engineering services, including conceptual design, styling, engineering and rapid prototyping. FISHER/UNITECH has five offices located strategically throughout the Midwest, also offering complete system administrative and networking support services.
