Michael Mintz joins iO Film, a technologically advanced, full-service digital film finishing facility specializing in film and video projects from every sector of the entertainment industry, in the new position of digital intermediate colorist. Mintz will work with clients in the digital grading of feature films.

With the explosion in demand for digital intermediate services, iO Film has bolstered its colorist ranks with the addition of Mintz, who has spent many years timing films, commercials and music videos. Mintz will now work exclusively in the data realm and bring his years of experience, and many of his clients, to iO Film.

We are very fortunate to have Michael joining our staff at iO Film, said Tim Krubsack, president, iO Film. Michael has a great eye for color, and he has experience with creating more cutting-edge looks, which fits in very well with the toolsets available via the digital intermediate.

Mintz started in TV production in 1987 at IVC in Manhattan as a studio manager. He moved into post-production as a dubber/tape operator. In 1990, he joined Lee Rothberg Productions (LRP) as an assistant online editor. After some time there, he started mentoring with that companys colorist and moved into the assistant colorist position, later becoming a junior colorist.

In 1993, Mintz moved to San Francisco for a short stint as a dailies colorist at Monaco Labs. He soon joined Western Images as a junior colorist position, and worked on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles for Lucas Films. In 1997, with another colorist from Western Images, Mintz moved to Portland, Oregon, to start the telecine department at Downstream Digital. At the time, Downstream was the only west coast facility north of Los Angeles to have a Spirit Datacine.

In his four years at Downstream as one of two senior colorists, Mintz developed an eclectic list of clients, including Nike, Adidas, Wieden & Kennedy, and Vinton Studios, in addition to working on many national TV spots. He also worked on dozens of music videos coming out of the Seattle music scene. One of Mintzs highlights during this time was working with Vinton Studios on its two TV shows for FOX, THE PJS and GARY AND MIKE.

While in Portland, Mintz became interested in color timing for features. In 2000 he moved to Los Angeles to work at Sonys HD Center as a feature colorist until the studio closed the center in 2001. Later that same year, he started working with a number of clients that followed him to Los Angeles from the Pacific Northwest. He started his own company, DO TV, and his client list quickly grew to include independent feature films. As an outgrowth of his indie feature film and music video work, Mintz developed a specialty in color grading for extreme sports projects.
