Maya Available To More For Less

Effective April 4, 2002 worldwide, Alias|Wavefront will drastically reduce the standard list prices of its Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited 3D animation software packages. Maya Complete, formerly priced at US$7,500, will sell for US$1,999 and Maya Unlimited, which formerly sold for US$16,000, will be priced at US$6,999 (list prices for node-locked licenses). Maya is well known for its use in the film, commercial and games industries by companies including Blue Sky Studios, ILM, Sega, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Weta Ltd. The repricing is one of many strategic tactics taken by Alias|Wavefront in the past year to position Maya as a volume market product. In April 2001 it shipped the Maya Shockwave 3D Exporter and later Maya RTA, aimed at the Web graphics market. The company then followed this up with the release of its Maya for Mac OS X product in September 2001 and the free Maya Personal Learning Edition in February 2002. In particular, Maya Personal Learning Edition was extremely well received in its target market, with over 100,000 people registering to obtain the software in the five weeks since its launch. The discounted Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited 3D may be purchased online beginning April 4, 2002 at www.aliaswavefront.com.
