Mattel Signs on as Master Toy Partner for UYoung’s ‘BattleClaw’ Series

Historic deal marks the first time a Chinese property has been signed to a global master toy license.

Chinese family media and entertainment company UYoung has signed a landmark deal with Mattel to be the global master toy partner for its new boys’ action series BattleClaw (78x22’).

This agreement with UYoung marks a series of historic firsts. It will be the first time a Chinese property has signed a global master toy license and also the first time such a license will have its worldwide launch in China. In addition, this series is the first boys’ action adventure show produced by UYoung targeting both China and the international marketplace.

Aimed at boys aged 6-10, the 2D animated action series is set to launch on Chinese state broadcaster CCTV at 6pm on 25th November 2016. Mattel will launch the toy range in the country soon after, marking the very first time that the toy company has launched a product range in China before the rest of the world.

Under the terms of the agreement Mattel will manufacture, distribute and market a wide variety of toys and consumer products inspired by the franchise, including games, action figures, and other items.  In addition, Mattel will manage the global licensing and merchandising for the property.

“We are very excited and proud to have produced the first Chinese property to attract such a major international toy deal,” said Lisa Zhong, President of UYoung. “On seeing BattleClaw, Mattel immediately recognised its high quality and its international toyetic appeal. At UYoung we remain committed to creating and developing world-class animated content which appeals to both Chinese and international markets.”

In this all-new series, BattleClaw is the most popular head-to-head beast-fighting sport in the world! Harnessing the power of the Wu-Xing, Ty, the protagonist, and the other competitors use BattleClaws to capture the elusive creatures known as Elemites. Each BattleClaw shoots out a powerful energy claw which the fighter can snap closed to capture anything in its path. Once the fighter captures Elemites, he or she can use the BattleClaw’s heads-up display to combine the Elemites and shoot them out to create a mighty beast that can go into battle against others. Who will be the Beast King? And can Ty and his friends stop an ancient evil force that threatens to take over the world?
