Master And Commander Sails Onto DVD & U.S. Armed Forces Broadcast

MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD arrives from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on April 20, 2004 in its DVD and rental VHS debut. Garnering 10 Academy Award nominations, and taking home the Oscar for both Best Achievement in Cinematography and Best Achievement in Sound Editing, the $90 million box office hit journeys to DVD in a beautifully packaged double-disc Collectors Giftpack. Loaded with awe-inspiring behind-the-scenes bonus features, the DVD includes a 28-page collectible booklet and exclusive maps that follow the adventures of Captain Lucky Jack Aubrey.

Russell Crowe portrays Captain Jack Aubrey, the dogged British frigate commander engaged in a spectacular high-seas cat and mouse chase with a heavily armed French warship, directed by Peter Weir.

Timed to coincide with the DVD arrival, MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD will be broadcast exclusively to all U.S. Armed Forces personnel deployed worldwide at 8:00 pm on April 20. The movie is expected to reach one million troops stationed in 178 countries around the world through the Armed Forces Television Network and beamed to virtually every U.S. Navy ship currently located in the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans through the Direct-to-Sailor signal. Honoring the courage and leadership of the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to serve their country, ground troops stationed in Baghdad will also be treated to a private screening of the DVD.Fox will also release MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD on rental VHS, as well as a single disc widescreen or pan & scan DVD, available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 while the Collectors Giftpack is priced at $39.98. All three DVD versions of MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD the Collectors Giftpack, Widescreen Single Disc (aspect ratio 2:35:1) and Pan & Scan Single Disc (aspect ratio 1:33:1) are presented with a maximum bit rate, 5.1 Dolby Digital and 5.1 DTS audio and French 5.1 and Dolby Spanish Surround.

The Collectors Giftpack offers an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the making of the epic adventure including six deleted scenes, four multi-angle battle scene studies, a one-hour exclusive making-of documentary, three new featurettes, an interactive sound recording demo, the HBO First Look Special, theatrical trailers and a still gallery.
