Major Cartoon Art Auction To Support Museum

Guernseys will be conducting an auction of cartoon and comic art to support the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton, Florida. Consisting of works coming from the museums archives, as well as from cartoonists and collectors across the country, the auction will include original artwork created for comic strips, comic books, animation, political and sports cartoons, and theatrical illustrations. Materials will range from art created a century ago to contemporary work. The sale will be held at the New York Historical Society, while absentee bidders will have an opportunity to bid online at www.leftbid.com. The auction will include thirty-six sketches on six storyboard panels created for the film PLANE CRAZY, created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, that mark the very first appearance of Mickey Mouse, as well as sixteen works by Winsor McCay. The previews will be from 6 - 9 pm ET on May 17, and from 10 am 9 pm ET on May 18.
