Saw 3D Cuts Up Competition at Box Office

Not surprisingly SAW 3D finished atop the U.S. box office for the Halloween weekend, Oct. 29-31, 2010. With vfx from Switch VFX, the venerable horror franchise's latest installment sliced off $22.5 million.

Last weekend's record-breaking horror flick PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 scared up another $16.5 million in second. The haunted house tale has possessed $65.7 million to date.

Summit's RED held its position in third with an additional $10.8 million. With vfx from CIS Vancouver, the aging assassin flick has knocked off $58.9 million thus far.

Paramount's JACKASS 3-D scored $8.43 million in fourth. The stunt spectacle has earned an impressive $101.6 million in three weeks.

Warner Bros.'s HEREAFTER conjured up $6.32 million in fifth. With vfx from Scanline, the Clint Eastwood drama has amassed $22.2 million.

Holding strong in sixth, Buena Vista's SECRETARIAT rode in with another $5.07 million. With vfx from Lola Visual Effects, the Triple Crown winner's tale has a cume of $44.8 million.

Sony's THE SOCIAL NETWORK befriended an additional $4.7 million. With vfx from Lola Visual Effects, the Mark Zuckerberg biopic has collected $79.7 million.

Placing eighth, Warner Bros.' LIFE AS WE KNOW IT earned $4 million, lifting its cume to $43.5 million.

Warner Bros.' THE TOWN hunkered down in ninth, stealing another $1.95 million. The Ben Affleck-helmed heist flick has run away with $87.6 million to date.

Closing out the top ten was Fox Searchlight's drama CONVICTION. After expanding in its third week, the true-life crime tale made $1.83 million, raising its cume to $2.38 million.
