LOS ANGELES, CA – LOOK Effects produced all the visual effects for LD Entertainment’s Disconnect. The Wonderful Films feature opens this Friday, April 12th.

Directed by Henry-Alex Rubin, Oscar-nominated for Murderball, Disconnect explores the consequences of modern technology and how it affects and defines our daily relationships. The film was produced by Mickey Liddell and Jennifer Monroe of LD Entertainment and William Horberg of Wonderful Films from an original screenplay by Andrew Stern. The ensemble cast includes Jason Bateman, Hope Davis, Frank Grillo, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Andrea Riseborough and Alexander Skarsgård.

Disconnect is a haunting rumination on the potential unintended human consequences of the increasingly wired world in which we live, and I'm extremely proud of LOOK's contributions to the film,” says visual effects supervisor Jeff Wozniak. “Having spent much of my career working on action movies, where visual spectacle is the whole point, it was kind of a nice change-of-pace to work on a project where the effects were more story-driven and (hopefully) invisible to the audience.”

While, at first look, Disconnect is not a movie that appears to be effects-intensive, it is the type of film LOOK has mastered, where seamless visual effects are a critical storytelling tool for filmmakers. In addition to completing more-traditional shots involving complex rig-removal and blue-screen comps, LOOK worked closely with the director and editor throughout the post-production process. Through this collaboration, they were able to employ a variety of techniques to provide the filmmakers with incredible flexibility in terms of shaping performances, timing, and shot composition throughout the film. The close communication also allowed LOOK to complete over 200 shots on a relatively compressed schedule.

With operations in Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver and Stuttgart, Germany, LOOK Effects has been a provider of digital-effects solutions for feature film, episodic television and special venue projects for over 15 years. LOOK’s effects for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan were nominated for both VES and BAFTA awards for visual effects. Other film credits include Warm Bodies, Life of Pi, Moonrise Kingdom, Alex Cross, The Dictator, The Muppets, Underworld Awakening, Captain America, Limitless, and The King’s Speech. Television credits include: “Bones,” “Game of Thrones,” “Nashville,” “Castle,” “The Finder,” the Emmy-nominated effects for “Life After People” and all of the VES-nominated effects for the final season of “Lost.”
