Look Effects Launches The Captain Design Division

Look Effects has expanded into graphic design with the recent unveiling of its new division, The Captain. The Captain offers TV, advertising and feature film client creative services that include the conception and production of main title sequences, show opens, logo design, film graphics and branding.

The Captain also achieved major client wins from HBO, Fox Sports and Dockers. Heading up the division are designer/director Mason Nicoll, exec producer Ellen Stafford and business development director Eric Todd Smith.

"The Captain marks an exciting phase in Look's development," said founder and president Mark Driscoll. "Our new hires know the market well and we are proud to have been able to attract such a high quality team to head up the new division. We are confident that The Captain will continue to expand and bolster Look's creative and design offerings to TV, commercial and feature clients."

Former creative director at Digital Kitchen/LA, Nicoll is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. Noted for the innovative blending of live action and graphics, Nicoll has directed and designed projects for Microsoft, Nike and HP. He was nominated for an Emmy for the main title of MIND OF MARRIED MAN, created the logo for SIX FEET UNDER and has been recognized and received numerous awards from The Art Directors Club, ID MAGAZINE, The AICP and BDA. Nicoll's work has appeared at the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York as well as in DETAILS and ARENA magazines and the AIGA journal.

Stafford is a former exec producer at Blind and Digital Kitchen/LA. Stafford has also worked with main title designer Kyle Cooper for whom she produced the opening credit sequences for DREAMCATCHER, ZATHURA, THE NEW WORLD and BEWITCHED. Stafford's resume includes 15 years of advertising agency and live-action experience, producing spots and projects for a variety of clients, including Volkswagen and Aerosmith.

Smith joins from a seven-year stint with Yu &Co where he was instrumental in building their business from the ground up. Prior to Yu& Co Smith held a variety of advertising and managerial positions at DKNY, Price Waterhouse and Mobil.
