Logan's Run On Pace With New Director

Warner Bros. Pictures has hired commercial director Joseph Kosinski to direct the remake of the 1976 sci-fi thriller, LOGAN'S RUN, reports the trades. CHILDREN OF MEN scribe Tim Sexton has penned the screenplay and Joel Silver is producing.

Based on William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's novel, the futuristic story depicts a society where all humans are killed at a certain age. Those who resist their mandatory execution and flee for their lives are called runners, who are hunted down by the Sandmen. Logan is one of the Sandmen that becomes a runner. Though the details of the plot are on the DL, it is rumored that the new version will stay closer to the book.

The remake has been in development at the studio for more than a decade. Bryan Singer signed on to develop and direct the project in 2004, before flying over to SUPERMAN RETURNS. Afterward Robert Schwenke (FLIGHTPLAN) and James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) circled the project, but nothing came to fruition.

Silver Pictures' Susan Downey and Navid McIlhargey are shepherding with Dan Lin doing the same for Warners.

Kosinski left the world of architecture to join commercial company Anonymous Content on the behest of director David Fincher. He eventually took on the role of director on visual effects heavy campaigns such as Nike, Apple and Nintendo. He came to Warners with his design for the film, which in the post-300 industry was a quick sell.
