Little Airplane Launches Book Division

Little Airplane Productions has launched Little Airplane Books, a new division that will create and produce original books for preschoolers and early readers. Little Airplane Books will be headed by writer, director and producer, Tone Thyne.

Little Airplane Books will be officially introduced during a special reading event for children at Little Airplane Studios, featuring Marcia Gay Harden. Set for Thursday, December 18 at 5 p.m., the Academy Award-winning actress is scheduled to read from Josh Selig's book of children's poems entitled A BOOK FOR YOU. The book is illustrated by Stephanie Cleaver.

"We will be writing, designing and binding all of our books in our South Street Seaport studio using our own creative team," said Josh Selig, president and founder, Little Airplane Productions. "This philosophy of making everything under one roof has worked for our television shows and I believe it will work for our children's books."

New York City-based Little Airplane Productions, founded in 1999, is best known for THE WONDER PETS! on Nickelodeon, GO, BABY! on Playhouse Disney, OOBI! on NOGGIN; and, most recently, 3RD & BIRD!, which premiered on CBeebies earlier this year. Little Airplane is also the pioneer of "photo-puppetry animation," a unique style of animation that combines real photos with traditional animation techniques.

The establishment of Little Airplane Books follows Little Airplane's announcement of Little Airplane Films earlier this fall. In March, the company announced the opening of its London studio, which marked its first permanent base outside the U.S. Prior to that, Little Airplane opened its flagship New York production facility in the South Street Seaport for tours to the public.
