Lionsgate Open to Games

MCVUK.com is reporting that Lionsgate is moving into games, producing casual and mobile titles from its TV and film properties. The studio is seeking developer partners to turn films like CRANK, RAMBO and SAW into playable entertainment. These new initiatives would be separate from console licensing, which Lionsgate’s president of digital media Curt Marvis thinks the company's titles are less viable.

However, Lionsgate's biggest franchise, SAW, is moving into the popular horror genre of console games. Konami will release a SAW game for Xbox 360 and PS3 later in 2009.

Marvis told MCVUK, “I don’t believe movie properties necessarily translate into a good game. Gamers only care about the game, they don’t care if it’s based on a hit film or not. So console movie-based titles haven’t seen the success many people may have expected.
