Lion King 1 1/2 Roars in Home Theaters

Since its Tuesday release, Walt Disney Pictures' THE LION KING 1 1/2 has sold more than 3 million combined DVD/VHS units in North America. Based on this sales figure alone, THE LION KING 1 1/2 is now positioned to be the best-selling direct-to-video DVD of all time.

"Disney has traditionally dominated the direct-to-video industry, so it is no surprise that THE LION KING 1 1/2 will continue to build upon that success," said Bob Chapek, president of Buena Vista Home Ent. "With the tremendous support by both retail and consumers, these incredible sales figures reinforce the admiration that audiences have for this wonderful franchise and for our Disney Video Premiere movies in general."

"It just goes to show the power of these beloved characters and a great new story," added Sharon Morrill, evp, DisneyToon Studios.

Produced by George Mendoza and directed by Bradley Raymond, the two-disc set of THE LION KING 1 1/2 ($29.99) goes back before the beginning and introduces Timon's (Nathan Lane) outrageous family, how he met Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella) and the truth about some "passed" events. The DVD also includes a whole new slate of bonus fun starring the original voice talent, games for all ages, theme park ride-style virtual safari, music video, behind-the-scenes tours and more.

Walt Disney Home Ent. is distributed by Buena Vista Home Ent. Inc., a recognized industry leader. A subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co., Buena Vista Home Ent. is the marketing, sales and distribution company for all Walt Disney, Touchstone, Miramax, Dimension and Buena Vista DVDs and videos.
