Atlantic filmmakers, animators and media artists are reminded the 2008 Joy Awards deadline is approaching. The deadline for applications is August 29, 2008 at 5 p.m. Application forms and details are available at www.lindajoy.com.
These Awards provide material and funding to emerging filmmakers and media artists, and script writers. The Linda Joy Awards alumni include many of this region's most successful talent like Andrea Dorfman (Director, LOVE THAT BOY, PARSLEY DAYS, FLOWER IN MY PEDAL), Mike Clattenberg (Director, TRAILER PARK BOYS), Helen Hill (Drirector, BOHEMIAN TOWN, MADAME WINGER MAKES A FILM, MOUSEHOLES), Marc Almon (Director, WAKE OF CALUMN MCLEOD), Shandi Mitchell (Director, TELL ME, BABA'S HOUSE) and Rodrigue Jean (Director, FULL BLAST).
For nearly a quarter century, the LJMAS has encouraged and supported the best emerging talent of the region.
The 2008 Awards include:
The Helen Hill Animated Award: offered to an artist working in innovative animated media in the Atlantic region.
The CBC Television Broadcast Script Award: supporting the development of a broadcast script to the successful applicant anywhere in the Atlantic Provinces.
The Joy Award: providing production support to the successful applicant anywhere in the Atlantic Provinces.
The Joy Post Award: providing post-production support to the successful applicant anywhere in the Atlantic Provinces.
The New Brunswick Joy Award: providing production support for the successful applicant in the Province of New Brunswick.
The Newfoundland Joy Award: providing production support for the successful applicant in the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador.
The Linda Joy Media Arts Society was established in memory of filmmaker Linda Joy Busby, who died in 1984 after struggling with cancer. The awards provide material and funding support to emerging media artists and filmmakers.
