As one of the best known video game characters in the world, Sonic the Hedgehog needs little introduction – since first appearing in 1991 he has featured in more than 65 video games that have sold over 80m units across the world. Today, the little blue hedgehog is instantly recognisable and a recent MSN poll voted Sonic the No. 1 video game character in the world, ahead of Mario and Lara Croft.

The property is worth $1billion annually and Sonic is still a major player in the video game market, with three titles set to be released next year to coincide with his twentieth anniversary.

The new Spearmark products are set to launch in autumn/winter 2011 and consist of a insulated lunch bag and matching metal drinks bottle, which both feature an action shot of Sonic along with his friends Knuckles and Tails.

“Sonic the Hedgehog is incredibly popular and we’re confident this new range will perform extremely well at retail - kids who are discovering Sonic for the first time will love the products whilst parents who remember him from the original games will also be drawn to them,” says Alex Bloom, commercial director at Spearmark.
