DHX Media Signs New U.K. Licensees For Rastamouse

DHX Media, a leading international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, has signed a raft of new licensing partners in the UK for its hit stop-motion animated preschool property Rastamouse.

Toronto, London 8 November 2011. DHX Media, a leading international producer and distributor of television programming and interactive content, has signed a raft of new licensing partners in the UK for its hit stop-motion animated preschool property Rastamouse.

New licensees include Vogue which will be launching a range of melamine products from tableware to drinkware, along with clocks and room decor. Zap is on board to create a Rastamouse bedding range, and MVSports will develop a range of outdoor toys from skateboards, scooters, skates and many more. Sommerbond will be the partner for underwear and nightwear with plans for a soft launch in Spring/Summer 2012, and a full roll out in Autumn/Winter 2012.  Finally, Their Nibs has signed on as the partner for children’s sleepwear, to be sold through Their Nibs store as well as Selfridges and John Lewis.

These new deals further expand and complement DHX Media’s existing roster of licensing partners for Rastamouse which include: EMI (music), Universal (DVD), Character Options (master toy), and MacMillan (publishing).

Further afield, Stella Projects has been appointed as the Australian and New Zealand licensing agent for the property. Stella will be appointing local licensees to complement EMI which has music rights for the region, and ABC Commercial which will develop and launch the Rastamouse DVD in Australia Angeles Blanco, Director of Licensing at DHX Media said: “We are delighted to have these new partners on board as we roll out the UK licensing programme for Rastamouse and Da Easy Crew. The property is going from strength to strength with consistently high ratings on CBeebies and the iPlayer and a strong social media presence. We’re looking to build momentum with the recent toy launch in the UK followed by new products in 2012, and to welcoming new partners in Australia through Stella Projects. There will be further deals announced in the coming weeks.”

Rastamouse, the animated series based on the critically acclaimed books by Genevieve Webster and Michael De Souza, launched on CBeebies in January 2011 and has since engaged a following of preschoolers and parents alike.  The series features Rastamouse, Scratchy and Zoomer of Da Easy Crew, the mystery-solving, reggae-playing band who always make a bad ting good and live by their motto "redemption, not retribution."
