Chorion to Represent Dan Dare From The Eagle
Press Release from Chorion
London/New York, 8 July 2009: Leading family entertainment producer and distributor Chorion has been appointed by Dan Dare Corporation to represent the international licensing rights to the iconic retro character Dan Dare, hero of THE EAGLE comic.
The first issue of THE EAGLE went on sale on 14th April 1950 and quickly became the biggest selling British comic of all time, selling a million copies a week in the 1950s.
During the 1950s and '60s there were many hundreds of Dan Dare products under licence, and once again this unique heritage artwork, created by Frank Hampson and a team of young highly talented artists, is now available for a broad range of licensing applications.
Already on board are Simon Spicer for greeting cards and wrap; Somerbond for apparel; Day 2 Day Trading for figurines, and Russimco, who will be launching a master toy range in early 2010.
"The Dan Dare artwork is simply breathtaking, with vivid colours and precise detail and we are excited to be reviving this much loved property, bringing new products to the market for both old and new fans alike." said Nicholas Durbridge, Chairman, Copyrights, a Chorion company.
Dan Dare is the true English Superhero! -- a brilliant pilot and true adventurer: cool, suave and sophisticated with a lively satirical wit. Chief Pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet, he is a man bound by a sense of honour and a determination to succeed, and would rather die than break his word.
He is accompanied on his thrilling intergalactic adventures by his faithful companions -- his sidekick Albert Digby, the beautiful scientist Professor Jocelyn Peabody and the superpilots Hank Hogan from Texas and Frenchman Pierre Lafayette. Their journeys aboard the wondrous spaceship Anastasia take them across the galaxies and deep into outer space -- and bring them into deadly conflict with a number of evil aliens. Of these, The Mekon of Mekonta, a green-skinned despot, is Dan Dare's arch nemesis.
