Because Peter Berg has moved onto the boardgame adaptation BATTLESHIP, DreamWorks has tapped NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM's Shawn Levy to direct their robot-boxing flick, REAL STEEL, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The film is set in a future whether human boxing has been outlawed and now robots engage in fisticuffs for human entertainment. The story centers on a father and his estranged son who are training a new skilled fighter. John Gatins (DREAMER) is penning a new draft of the script.

Angry Films' Don Murphy and Susan Montford are the producers. Steven Spielberg is the exec producer with ImageMovers' Robert Zemeckis, Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke. Levy will also produce.

The project was originally acquired from Dan Gilroy on spec in 2003. Jeremy Leven (THE NOTEBOOK) and Les Bohem (THE ALAMO) both have done rewrites.

Disney will distribute.
