This summer, VanArts (Vancouver Institute of Media Arts) will hold one-month intensives (no prerequisites required) in classical and computer animation. Special guest instructors Bob Godfrey and Ken Southworth will teach the July and August classical animation programs. Program dates are July 3-27 and August 7-31, 2001. Bob Godfrey has been nominated four times for an Oscar and won for "Great," an animated musical, in 1975. He also received a British Film Academy Award (the British equivalent of an Oscar) for "Henry's Cat," a children's series that begun in 1983. His more recent work includes yet another Oscar nomination, "Small Talk" (1993) and "Know Your Europeans" (1995) made at the instigation of the now late John Halas. Ken Southworth has extensive animation credits spanning a fifty year career, including twenty-one years with Hanna-Barbera Productions ("Scooby-Doo" and "Johnny Quest"), extensive animation work at Disney ("Alice in Wonderland" and "Cinderella"), MGM ("Tom & Jerry"), Walter Lantz ("Woody Woodpecker"), Warner Bros. ("Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny's introduction to Gremlins II"), Filmation ("Star Trek") and many other studios and projects.
