Press Release from LeeonIPL
A series of webtoons (web-based cartoon) started to publish in a popular Korean online community in 2005 and soon it became a book which sold more than 5,000 copies in the first 5 days in 2009. It inked a publishing deal in China, Taiwan and Thailand and produced a series of licensed products including a USB memory stick, diary, and mobile phone case. Now a mobile game based on the webtoon is under development. This is the success story of LeeonIPL’s “A Study on Blood Type Horoscopes.”
LeeonIPL is notably distinguished from peers: a private technology transfer designated by Korean government and a subsidiary of Intellectual Property law firm Leeon. Leeon established LeeonIPL in 2007 to utilize its empirical knowledge on IP licensing. Another reason to expansion was character licensing had more high-valued opportunities unlike patented technology licensing. LeeonIPL covers the whole process of character licensing from character copyright and trademark registration, design registration to total production consulting.
A Study on Blood Type Horoscopes is the first publication that LeeonIPL managed. Since December 2008 LeeonIPL expanded its licensing business rapidly into USB memory stick to digital contents such as audio book, phone background image, and mobile comic strips.
A reason for such success lies on LeeonIPL’s focus on quality as well as total management strategy that involves with every step of processes including production development.
There are two elements that LeeonIPL consider the most important when it comes to character licensing business: optimized design and quality control. Sometimes LeeonIPL does not exactly duplicate the original character if it is necessary for a product due to the product’s material. This level of attention to detail makes LeeonIPL different from peers.
LeeonIPL is already recognized outside of Korea. The company already sealed the deal with China, Taiwan, and Thailand publishers and plans to participate in Franchising & Licensing Asia 2010 trade show in order to meet with Japanese buyers. LeeonIPL plans to publish two volumes and two mobile games as well as produce more licensed products based on A Study on Blood Type Horoscopes.
LeeonIPL demands the attention as a leading IP management company that equipped with legal knowledge.
