The presentation on the 'visual effects of the LAST SAMURAI' will be both a technical "How we did that" and anecdotes telling of the physical, political and practical approaches to solving the visual effects difficulties involved in mounting a project like this in today's 'Blockbuster' World. The speakers from the four main vendors, Flash Filmworks, Pixel Magic, Rising Sun Pictures and Digital Dimension, will present and discuss their processes, pipelines and problem solving techniques while Jeffrey A. Okun will guide you through the overall process from the first phone call to the last release print.

Speakers will include: Jeff Okun, Warner Bros.; Dan Novy, Flash Film Works; William Mesa, Flash Film Works; George Macri, Pixel Magic; Justin Mitchell, Digital Dimension; and Tony Clark, Rising Sun Pictures.

A social hour will run from 6:30 - 7:30 pm followed directly by the program. The event will take place at the Aratani/Japan American Theatre, 244 South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, California 90012. Parking is $3 in the structure at 350 2nd St or the Lot at 245 San Pedro Street, directly across from the JACCC. The event is free to L.A. ACM SIGGRAPH members and $15 for non-members.
