Kong Swings Onto Toonami U.K.

This November, Toonami in the U.K. will begin airing a new 40-episode KONG animated series and a 74-minute animated movie from BKN New Media.

Turner Broadcastings boys action animation channel will air the U.K. premiere of KONG THE ANIMATED SERIES on Nov. 1, at 6:00 pm. The movie, KONG: KING OF ATLANTIS, will have its U.K. premiere during Toonamis popular Destination: Friday block on Nov. 11, at 5.30 pm. It will have its network premiere on Cartoon Network on Nov. 19.

KONG THE ANIMATED SERIES tells the story of the original King Kongs clone who was taken back to the prehistoric world of Kong Island. The scientist who cloned Kong has developed an experimental and unique DNA cyberlink that enables humans to merge with animals. Thanks to her revolutionary technology, the famous giant ape can now combine DNA with her 18-year-old grandson, Jason Jenkins, to become the even more powerful Mega-Kong.

Paul Cackett, head of Toonami, says, We think the KONG series and movie will be a big hit with our viewers. The combination of the iconic giant ape with high-octane action and futuristic technology, all set on a prehistoric island, is irresistible and fits in perfectly with Toonamis action-adventure line up of shows.

In the companion movie, KONG: KING OF ATLANTIS, the sunken city of Atlantis rises out of the sea and Kong is tricked into helping Queen Reptilla take over the city and become its new ruler. Jason and his friends, joined by a beautiful Atlantis warrior, must race against time to convince Kong that the Queen is evil, in order to save Kong Island and the citizens of Atlantis.

Created by animation veteran Richard Ungar and seasoned writer Sean Catherine Derek, the series has already been bought by numerous territories, including Canada, India, Indonesia and the US, and the movie has been sold to 80 countries around the world.

"We are thrilled to have leading kids TV channels such as Toonami and Cartoon Network on board," says Nicola Andrews, vp sales & marketing, BKN New Media. "The key to every successful project is strong development and we are excited to bring KONG to Toonami and its young audience."
