King of the Hill to Compete For Best Comedy Series Emmy

KING OF THE HILL exec producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky have announced that they will be entering their animated series in the live-action categories including outstanding comedy series, reports VARIETY. The move really was spurred to allow the show's writing staff a chance to be cognized because the Academy does not have a separate writing category for animation.

"We feel we're doing high-level work, and we want to be judged by our peers," Altschuler said. "We've always wanted to compete in that category."

Not everyone is happy about the move, because KING OF THE HILL will not be eligible in the animation category, which it was won previously. In addition, the directors of the series cannot enter the live-action directors' category. This isn't the first time that a primetime toon has tried to play with the live-action big boys THE SIMPSONS made an unsuccessful voyage into the live-action arena, but moved back into toon-friendly categories after failing to even get a nod.

So we'll have to wait and see if Academy members consider Hank Hill worthy enough to stand alongside Raymond, Fraiser and the Friends.
