Since its creation in 1985, the Kecskemét Animation Film Festival (KAFF) has become one of the most significant film festivals in Central Europe. In 1999, the Festival welcomed about 10,000 people who saw more than 350 works during five days. The Festival offers several programs including selections of the most interesting animated films from the last three years, retrospectives of the greatest masters, selections of the best European student films and a childrens workshop. Awards are presented in 10 categories including two for international entries: Best European Feature Film and Best European TV Special. Categories for Hungarian works only are: Best Short Films, Best Animated Commercial, Best Feature, Best Series, Best TV Special, Best Music, Best Script and Best First Film. No entry fee is required. Entry films must be finished after February 1st, 1999. Formats for pre-selection are: 35mm film, Betacam-SP PAL and VHS PAL. The Festival invites competition directors and pays for their accommodations and meals while in Kecskemét.
