Kaleidoscope to Take ‘On Angel Wings’ To MIP-TV

Ahead of MIP-TV, Kaleidoscope Film Distribution acquires worldwide rights to The Illuminated Film Company’s On Angel Wings, a 30-minute animated special based on the book by Michael Morpurgo.

London -- Kaleidoscope Film Distribution announced its acquisition of worldwide rights (excluding UK TV) of On Angel Wings. A stunning animation based on the book by Michael Morpurgo, author of the classic novel “War Horse,” Kaleidoscope is preparing to introduce the 30-minute special to buyers during MIP-TV.

In addition to Michael Morpurgo, On Angel Wings has impressive pedigree, boasting a creative team whose previous film and television credits include some of the most successful and treasured work of its kind.

The writer and director is Dave Unwin who directed the award winning TV special Father Christmas, The Tales of Peter Rabbit, The Wind and the Willows and the Children’s BAFTA winner, The Little Reindeer. On Angel Wings is produced by Iain Harvey who executive produced the much loved 1982 children’s classic The Snowman and who produced The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Stories with his production company The Illuminated Film Company. The music is composed by Julian Nott who has worked with animator Nick Park on his early Wallace and Gromit films as well as the hugely successful feature film Wallace and Gromit The Curse of the Were Rabbit.

The adaptation of Morpurgo’s picture book, a heart-warming re-working of the nativity published in 2006, is a vivid and moving story about a young shepherd boy called Amos who gets his wish after the other shepherds leave him behind. Confirmed voice talent includes Sir Michael Gambon and Juliet Stevenson. Kaleidoscope will be introducing the title to buyers at MIPTV.

The deal was negotiated by Iain Harvey for The Illuminated Film Company and by Spencer Pollard, CEO and Caroline Stern, Director of International Sales & Acquisitions for KFD.

Stern commented: “It is always a highlight to work with established Producers who have an unwavering passion for what they do. We are very excited to see this production take shape and fully expect it to become a new Christmas Classic.”

Producer Iain Harvey of The Illuminated Film Company said: “Every producer needs a strong and enthusiastic distributor, so working with Kaleidoscope has already proved to be invigorating. Michael Morpugo always has a unique take on even familiar stories, and On Angel Wings will be a very special production for Illuminated in its 21st year.

UK broadcast rights have been sold to the BBC who will begin broadcast this December.
