John Singleton Takes On Clancy Without Remorse

John Singleton has inked a deal with Paramount Pictures to write and direct an adaptation of Tom Clancys spy thriller, WITHOUT REMORSE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Troubled former agent and Disney exec Michael Ovitz, who owns the rights to the property, will produce. Ovitz once represented both Singleton and Clancy.

The book focuses on former Navy SEAL and CIA operative John Kelly, code-named Mr. Clark, a character who was played by Willem Dafoe in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Published in 1993 by Putnam, the novel was in development at Savoy Pictures in 1995, but never got past the pre-production stage.

"Clancy is one of the best-selling authors of all time, but a lot of people don't understand that there's also a whole population of people who know Clancy from the video game world (through his SPLINTER CELL games)," said Singleton, who sees the film appealing to both demographics.

Paramount's Brad Weston will shepherd the project.
