J.J. Sedelmaier Creates For Brand-Aid Client XM Radio

J. J. Sedelmaier Productions has completed three new spots for satellite broadcasting giant XM Radio, focused on the benefits to drivers of XM NavTraffic, XM's real-time traffic information service.

The spots are the first collaboration between JJSP and Washington, D. C.-based Brand-Aid, which worked closely with XM's in-house creative team on the integrated campaign.

Using the tagline "Get There Faster," the :10 spots employ XM's signature line art animation, originated by XM's creative agency of record, Lowe New York, to portray drivers in their cars listening to XM's commercial-free music channels, and using their XM NavTraffic service to find an alternate, quicker route to their destination.

Each of the spots -- GROOVE, JAM and ROCK -- features different music fans enjoying their particular genre of tunes. White line drawings against a black background pop with yellow road lines, and the yellow XM Radio waves make up the various hair styles of the drivers.

J. J. Sedelmaier said he and his studio enjoyed the challenge of working within XM Radio's existing design parameters, while also bringing their own aesthetic to the project. "The client came with a clear design vocabulary, and we had fun designing these new characters," he said. "It was also great to use Flash, and embrace the way Flash looks. These are clearly digitally animated, and because of the nature of the product -- it's satellite traffic information delivered right to your dashboard -- the look and feel of Flash fits."
