Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell Cast in Animated Horton

Jim Carrey, who played a live-action Grinch, returns to the world of Dr. Seuss as the lead voice actor in HORTON HEARS A WHO from Twentieth Century Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios, reports USA TODAY and the trades. Meanwhile, Steve Carrell (THE OFFICE) will co-star as the diminutive mayor of Who-Ville.

Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino are directing HORTON from an adaptation scripted by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Audrey Geisel, Chris Wedge (ICE AGE, ROBOTS director) and Fox Animation president Chris Meledandri are exec producers, and the producer is Fox Animation production exec Bob Gordon.

In HORTON HEARS A WHO, Horton the elephant struggles to protect a microscopic community from his neighbors, who refuse to believe it exists.

Carrey was first cast as RJ the scheming raccoon in OVER THE HEDGE from DreamWorks Animation, before being replaced by Bruce Willis, so HORTON marks his debut as a voice talent in a 3D-animated feature.

Fox Animations next release will be THE SIMPSONS MOVIE (July 27, 2007).
