Jetix Greenlights Get Ed Disney TV Animation Series

Jetix, action/adventure programming block on Toon Disney and ABC Family kicks off its first year anniversary by greenlighting a new original animated series, GET ED, from Walt Disney Television Animation (WDTA) to air this fall, and additional season pickups for three key original series SUPER ROBOT MONKEY TEAM HYPERFORCE GO!, W.I.T.C.H. and POWER RANGERS: MYSTIC FORCE (working title). The programming commitment was announced today (March 1, 2005) by Gary Marsh, evp, original programming and production, Disney ABC Cable Networks Group, during an upfront presentation to advertisers.

"Jetix on Toon Disney and ABC Family has become a favorite destination for boys, perfectly complimenting Disney Channels success with girl viewers, said March. We believe the addition of more originals in the shape of GET ED and POWER RANGERS: MYSTIC FORCE to our lineup of standout performers including SUPER ROBOT MONKEY TEAM HYPERFORCE GO! and W.I.T.C.H. will be a huge draw with fans of action adventure programming."

With a first season order of 26 half-hour episodes, the GET ED series follows the adventures of Ed, genetically created from an ancient artifact, who works as a surreptitious cybersleuth, foiling identity thefts and solving other information-based crimes while toiling at a futuristic messenger service. Ed and his buddies live and do battle against a massive evil Bedlam, in the hyper-jacked, futuristic world of Progress City.

WDTA will produce 13 new half-hour episodes for a second season of SUPER ROBOT MONKEY TEAM HYPERFORCE GO! This fast-paced, futuristic anime-style action series pits the forces of Ultimate Evil against a scrappy band of high-tech monkey warriors, led by a resourceful 13-year-old boy named Chiro.

W.I.T.C.H., an animated action series produced by SIP Animation, based on Disney Publishing's comic magazines of the same name, will add 26 half-hours in its second season which debuts in fall 2005. The series combines epic adventure, magic and comedy through the lives of the five young heroines (Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay-Lin) designated to maintain the natural order of the universe as well as cope with the daily trials and tribulations of being teenagers.

POWER RANGERS: MYSTIC FORCE (working title), the 14th edition of the world's most popular kids' action/adventure franchise, will debut in early 2006 with 32 half-hour episodes. The action takes place on present-day Earth with five teens descended from an ancient race skilled in the art of spell casting.

Premiere dates and the complete 2005-06 season schedule for Jetix on Toon Disney and ABC Family will be announced at a later date.
