James Anderson to Head Cartoon Network PR

Veteran TV publicity exec James Anderson joins Cartoon Network as vp of public relations, overseeing external and internal communications supporting the domestic Cartoon Network brand, including the flagship television network and its sister services, Adult Swim and Boomerang; and Cartoonnetwork.com.

Jamess reputation as one of the most-respected and successful communications strategists and tacticians in television is reflected in the shows he helped make hits over more than 15 years at Carsey-Werner, said Shirley Powell, svp of corporate communications for Turner Broadcasting System Inc. to whom he reports. That he has chosen to make Cartoon Network his new professional home speaks volumes about the quality of its programming and its profile in the entertainment community. Hes a great addition to the Cartoon Network executive team and to Turner Broadcastings communications effort.

Anderson will be based in Atlanta and, in addition to reporting to Powell, will work closely with Jim Samples, evp/gm of Cartoon Network.

Anderson was svp of publicity and public relations at Carsey-Werner in Los Angeles, where he created a comprehensive in-house communications department servicing the companys corporate, production, syndication and film divisions. He led the development and execution of campaigns for Carsey-Werner-produced series, including THAT 70S SHOW, THE COSBY SHOW, ROSEANNE, 3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN, A DIFFERENT WORLD, GRACE UNDER FIRE, GROUNDED FOR LIFE, CYBILL, COSBY and WHOOPI.

Anderson is a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, currently serving on the Membership, TV Cares and Governors Ball committees and as editorial advisor for EMMY magazine. He also is a member of the Television Publicity Executive Committee (TPEC) and the Entertainment Publicists Professional Society (EPPS), and was a board member of the Los Angeles Chapter of Sickle Cell Anemia.

Cartoon Network (CartoonNetwork.com), currently seen in 88 million U.S. homes and 160 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System Inc.s ad-supported cable service offering original, acquired and classic animated entertainment for kids and families. Cartoon Network shares its channel space with Adult Swim, a late-night destination from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am showcasing original and acquired animation for young adults 18-34.
