Press Release from Myouterspace.com

Myouterspace.com announced today the next step in their online development of The Zenoids animated series: a first-of-its-kind, free-to-enter competition that gives every aspiring composer a shot to score a new show’s title theme. The contest gives the up-and-comer a chance to catch the ear of Oscar award-winning maestro Michael Giacchino (Up, Star Trek, Lost), who will judge the competition alongside Zenoids stars William Shatner and Amanda Tapping.

"I think it's a fun opportunity for aspiring composers and I’m looking forward to hearing what the members of the Myouterspace music community come up with," said Giacchino. Performing rights organization ASCAP will promote the open-to-the-public competition on their home page, ensuring promising new talent the chance to get their music heard.

This contest is a challenge to score the downloadable animated video clip on Myouterspace.com. Finalists will be chosen by Giacchino and The Zenoids creative team. Selections will be posted on Myouterspace.com so music-lovers can vote for their favorite composer. The Grand Prize Winner’s theme will be used as the main title of the animated web series, and runners-up will receive prizes from top music gear providers JBL, Big Fish Audio, Finale Notation Software and Slate Digital. The winning theme will be mixed by Jay Baumgardner at NRG Studios.

“We’re committed to involving our community as much as possible,” said the Creative Director of Myouterspace, Sammy Oriti. “We’ve recorded voices with Bill and Amanda on member-submitted scripts and our main title animation was crafted by Jeremy Appleman, our ‘Toon Boom Animate Shatner’ contest winner.”

“We’re developing more than just a web series,” said Shatner. Amanda Tapping, Executive Producer and Star of SyFy’s Sanctuary, plays Zara alongside Shatner’s Kozmo and captains the Starship Orion, the central hub for The Zenoids on the website. “I love the fan participation. There’s a true sense of community on this project,” said Tapping. A theatrical feature version is currently in the works with noted author Alan Dean Foster, whose mission is to make sure the science stays in the fiction.

The Zenoids project was in the womb when Shatner first met Tapping and Giacchino at the launch of Myouterspace during Comic-Con 2010 in San Diego. After landing a helicopter on the deck of the USS Midway, Shatner floated the idea of the two talents signing on to the Myouterspace team during the live-stream broadcast. One year later, Giacchino as Governor of Orpheus and Tapping as Captain of the Orion, join the site’s growing list of industry mentors, including John Eaves, Paul Barnett and Alan Dean Foster.

The Zenoids Theme Music Contest begins October 4rd with a deadline for entries of November 6th. Information about how to participate in The ZenoidsTheme Music Contest is now available online at www.myouterspace.com/zenoidscontest.
