Ed Robertson, lead singer and guitar player for the multi-platinum rock band Barenaked Ladies, premiers in his first cameo role in this week’s special double-length 50th episode of the online Machinima series, RED VS. BLUE. Robertson plays Captain Flowers, the ill-fated leader of the Blue army.

This episode marks the third collaboration between Robertson and series creator Rooster Teeth Prods. Rooster Teeth created custom RED VS. BLUE clips that Barenaked Ladies showed on their last two concert tours of North America.

“Our fans have been anxiously awaiting episode 50 for quite a while and we wanted to give them something really special,” said series creator Burnie Burns. “Ed delivers an hilarious performance.”

RED VS. BLUE is a science-fiction comedy that follows the misadventures of two hapless armies fighting for possession of the least desirable piece of real estate in the universe -- a box canyon in the middle of nowhere.

The series has been hailed by critics as the “first masterpiece of Machinima,” a new form of storytelling that uses video game engines to produce animation. “What Is Machinima?” — a special panel discussion and technical demonstration presented by Rooster Teeth — was the most highly attended panel at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. The group will be presenting next at the 2005 South by Southwest Film Festival.

In less than two years since the series’ launch on April Fool’s Day 2003, Rooster Teeth has gathered an audience of more than one million viewers weekly. With more than 110,000 registered community members, its Website — roosterteeth.com — has become one of the hottest comedy spots on the Internet.

RED VS. BLUE is now in its third season. Seasons 1 and 2 may be purchased on DVD in the roosterteeth.com e-store and at Gamestop retail locations across North America.
