NBCUniversal to Promote Stan Lee's Guardian

NBCUniversal has taken an equity stake in Stan Lee's hockey superhero property THE GUARDIAN PROJECT, reports Variety. The property is envisioned as a transmedia franchise to cross TV, films, comicbooks, games, merchandise and theme park attractions.

GUARDIAN creates a superhero based on each of the NHL's 30 teams. NBCU will promote the property across its media brands, especially with its NHL broadcasts.

Lee and Gill Champion's POW! Ent. is developing the IP for TV and is free to shop the project to any studio regardless of its partnership with NBCU. Lee's SLG Ent. and the NHL formed Guardian Media Ent. to produce the property. Merchandise based on the characters is already for sale, and comics, a novel and social and mobile games are coming soon.
